REIT

A real estate investment trust (REIT) is a company that owns property earning rent, such as offices, warehouses or towers, and whose shares trade on a stock exchange.

REITs let investors own a slice of property without buying a building. In the United States a REIT must pay out at least 90% of its taxable income as dividends, which is why investors hold them for income. Examples are Realty Income, Prologis and American Tower.
