Line chart

A line chart joins one price per period, almost always the close, into a single line. It shows the trend clearly but hides where price went during each period.

Because it uses only the close, a line chart cannot show the highs and lows, which is where price turned and where traders draw levels and place stops. On 30 September 2026 Bitcoin’s closing line moved 40 dollars, while the day ranged 2,694 dollars from high to low. Line charts are useful for comparing markets or seeing a trend over years. In America, Charles Dow’s studies of closing prices in the 1880s and 1890s were in effect line charts.
