Commodity

A commodity is a raw material traded in bulk, such as gold, silver, oil, natural gas, wheat or copper. Most commodity trading happens through futures contracts rather than the physical goods.

Producers and users of commodities trade them to fix future prices, which is called hedging; speculators trade them for profit. Because storing barrels or bars is costly, traders reach commodities through a futures contract, an ETF, a tokenized asset or a CFD.
