Liquidation fee

A liquidation fee is what a futures exchange takes when it force-closes your position: part or all of the margin still left in it, on top of the usual trading fee. Binance calls it the liquidation clearance fee.

When a position is liquidated, the margin left between the liquidation price and the bankruptcy price (where the margin is exactly zero) rarely comes back to you. Exchanges keep it as a fee and put it into their insurance fund. Binance charges a liquidation clearance fee with a rate set per contract in its trading rules; check your exchange’s current rules. The forced close is a market order, so it also pays the taker fee and any slippage. Your own stop loss, placed before the liquidation price, avoids all of it.
