Hammer

A hammer is a candle with a long lower wick, at least about twice its body, and a small body near the top of the range. Price fell a long way during the period and was bought back.

On 30 January 2026 Bitcoin’s daily candle was a hammer: a long lower wick with a small body on top. In classic candlestick analysis it is read as a possible end of a fall, but on its own it is only a description; a hammer whose wick sits on a level carries far more weight than one in the middle of nowhere. Its mirror image is the shooting star.
