Swing high and swing low

A swing high is a candle whose high is above the highs of the candles on each side of it; a swing low is the mirror image. They are the turning points of a chart.

The lower the timeframe, the more swings there are. In the week of 8 to 14 October 2026, Alphabet’s perpetual on Bybit had 38 swings on the 1-hour chart and 452 on the 5-minute chart, counting a candle as a swing when its high or low beats the two candles on each side. Most of those small turning points never matter again, which is why levels are taken from the daily chart.
